What is the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority?

  • ALCOSAN provides wastewater treatment to 83 municipalities including the city of Pittsburgh. They are the governmental entity that handles your wastewater bill. They are a separate entity from PWSA. While PWSA is tasked with supplying water and maintaining the sewer system for the City of Pittsburgh, ALCOSAN manages the wastewater for the entire region. In the City of Pittsburgh ALCOSAN does not charge individuals but rather the municipality as a whole.
